Tendring sent shockwaves throughout Super 8's and Division 1 of the NVL this weekend with an assertive match against previously #1 ranked Docklands VC.

Hot from the start, Tendring hustled out to a 8-4 lead through a series of strong team blocking, attacking through the middle, and a service run by Yiannakkos. Docklands appeared unprepared for the aggressive Tendring onslaught throughout the majority of the first set. Alex Porter would find the sport court troublesome as he averaged .75 trips per set. Tendring would build a seemingly insurmountable 23-18 lead through excellent execution of the middle bic attack, efficient hitting from Robert Chilcoat and Alex Porter, and superior aggressiveness at the net. In spite of excellent defense from Captain Dove and Yiannakkos, a series of Tendring service errors and shaky passing against a solid Docklands close would see the score at 26-24, Docklands ahead 1-0.

Tendring went into their first home fixture of the season full of confidence following their back to back wins the previous weekend. As ever Tendring had strong home support with over 60 people present at Tendring Teccnology College and a further 180 people watching via the live stream (available at www.tendringvolleyball.com).

Tendring made a sluggish start to the first set and quickly went 3 points behind. However it did not take long for Tendring to find their rhythm and some clever hitting from Dacey and Guimond saw Tendring take the lead at the first technical timeout. A combination of tactical serving and solid block defence saw Tendring take the first set 25-20.

HOW TO BOOK YOUR TEAM:

Last Sunday's first game of the day saw Tendring Men's 2 take on Richmond and with a squad of just 7 it required a complete team performance to get the win. Fortunately all players performed and the lads were able to secure a 3-0 victory with a Scoreline of 25-17 25-22 25-17 Tendring came out of the blocks with early service pressure forcing errors early on and took an early 8-3 lead. From there Richmond responded with some intelligent hitting and strong defensive work but 2 service runs towards the back end of the set saw tendring hold on to claim it 25-17.

Following on from an impressive performance the day before, Tendring were full of confidence going into the game against Birmingham. Tendring established an early 5 point lead with some tactical serving and clever hitting. However a combination of Tendring errors and Birmingham pressure saw the Midlands team bring it back to 15-16 at the second technical timeout. Tendring managed to establish another 3 point lead but again Birmingham were able to close the gap. Chilcoat remained composed at the service line and his service pressure enabled Tendring to take the first set 25-23.

The second set followed a similar pattern to the first with Tendring winning clusters of points only to allow Birmingham back into the set with a combination of unforced errors and clever Birmingham attacks. An uncharacteristically quiet game from captain Dove saw him replaced by the experienced Porter. Tendring continued to trade with Birmingham in a tense back end to the set. Birmingham had 2 set points but the outstanding Chilcoat ensured that Tendring took a nervy second set 30-28.
