The Curriculum Model

The students for which this programme is targeted are elite athletes that have the potential to play at the highest standard and therefore will be already committing significant amounts of time towards Volleyball. The problems occur for young people when the demands of a full time education are compromised by the demands of playing sport at a high level. We believe there are several solutions to this problem and this will depend upon the type of enrolment within the academy.

Students will enrol as members of Tendring Technology College and receive a 5 hour curriculum package within their academic programme. These are timetabled lessons led by an experienced coach. These will be in addition to any extra-curricular activities the players will follow. The constant repetition allows significant progress to be made in their technical development and their training needs/academic needs can be monitored on a constant basis. A mentoring programme is used on a regular basis to discuss with each player, progress in terms of Volleyball performance and academic performance.

Students within the ‘Regional Training Squad’ who do not join Tendring Technology College may also enrol on the NVQ, but will have to demonstrate a training programme that will allow continued technical development. The U17 Regional Training Squad’ can be based at the academy venue at Tendring Technology College. These players should also be linked to an established club offering regular and high level match training. Each regional session will involve classroom based activities to incorporate the NVQ AASE programme.
