KS3 Introduction
So you’ve got to teach volleyball to year 7 and you’re stuck for ideas!?!
No problem.
Volleyball can be one of the simplest and fun sports to teach with the most basic of equipment but lets get one this straight, you are never going to turn a year 7 into a good volleyball player in 1 block of work, so don’t try to.
To teach a child a game they have never played before and possibly never seen before can be a difficult task. Using our guide you can slowly build the game week by week, introducing new techniques and rules as and when they need them. These lessons plans will not only help them to learn a fun new sport but actually have a massive affect on their other sports as they will be catching and throw 100’s of times a lesson whilst having fun. As we know families don’t play catch as much as they use to, unless it’s on the wii/xbox/PS3.
In an ideal world every school would have a big sports hall with line markings for the appropriate court sizes, a net system that can be adjusted to the correct height and enough balls for 1 between 2 children.
This is not an ideal world so with our help we will show you how to easily deliver volleyball to year 7 students for a one off equipment fee of just over £200#. This equipment you can be used in a number of locations but must be attached safely. An official volleyball/badminton net system is available and starts at £500 plus install costs of approx £250 (if done by sports safe/universal services). Please check out our equipment section for more info.
Using the 6 lessons plans below you will be able to deliver volleyball lessons with very little previous knowledge of the game. Each lesson plan has an accompanying video which will show you how our local expert delivers the lesson*.
Each plan is for an hour but can be adjusted to fit your needs. You can also use them over an 8 lesson period by have a mini tournament in lesson 4 and using the extra material for the additional lessons.
If you have any questions please check out the Teacher Resources FAQ page, if your answer is not there, email us and we will try and help.
