NVL Women Telford (H) Match Report 2011-12
Tendring Women Demolish Telford
Tendring 3 - 0 Telford
25-6, 25-14, 25-18
Report by Hannah Robinson
Having watched Leicester beat Telford 3-0 the Tendring ladies were determined to use their next match to send a message to the rest of the league.
Mark Harris was very clear in the pre-match team talk that the Tendring side should not let up at any point, and should use this opportunity to explore what the Tendring squad has to offer. The first set began with a run of serves from Kerry Skinner which were not returned thanks to some dominance at the net from Tracey Davies and Robyn Sawyer. Telford had nothing to offer in response and the first set finished with a clear pasting at 25-6.
During the second set, Harris was able to change around the team and allow Tendring to explore other possibilities with their new squad. Amanda Pollard came on to offer a solid attack through the outside position and some committed control from Kerry Skinner and Vicky Southgate made it clear which was the more superior side. Becky Saunders disguised her sets well allowing Emily Mansfield to build up the power in her hitting. Telford were quiet and were struggling to come up with a reply which lead to Tendring winning the second set 25-14.
The third set began with a controlling service run from Hannah Robinson and was maintained with some skilled pick ups back court from Vicky Southgate and Spophie Haydon. Linda Ziverte continued to time her hitting well through both sides of the net. The number of options that Tendring’s attack had to offer meant that Telford had no idea where the ball would be coming from. Robyn Sawyer served a crushing final point which summed up the tone of the whole game. The final set finished 25-18.
These two wins have meant that the Tendring ladies have climbed to the top of the league table and maintained a clean sheet without dropping a set so far.
