Tendring Women Push Leicester a Side

Tendring 3 - 0 Leicester

25-13, 25-21, 25-17

Report by Hannah Robinson

After another successful result last week, Tendring ladies were approaching their first triangular fixture with confidence. Telford and Leicester have had a mixed season so far and so the home team were unsure of what to expect.
Their first match against Leicester proved to be the more difficult of the two matches; however they were no match for the well prepared Tendring side. Consistent serving was the key to taking control of this match. The Leicester side were unable to return a constant barrage of serves from Becky Saunders and Linda Ziverte. Defence back court from liberos Vicky Southgate and Sophie Haydon meant that nothing hit the ground on the Tendring side and Kerry Skinner silenced the Leicester side at the net hitting some quality balls through the middle which continued throughout the match to earn her the MVP award. The first set finished with a convincing 25-13 win to Tendring.

The second set followed a similar pattern as Coach Mark Harris brought on Liz White through the middle to provide some intimidating height at the net. Leicester were unable to provide a solid attack and Tendring made the most of this with some controlled passing from Hannah Robinson and Emily Mansfield meant that Saunders was able to distribute the attack evenly across the net. Leicester could not respond and confident and intelligent hitting through the middle from Robyn Sawyer meant that Tendring took the second set 25-21.

Tendring started to see this match as an opportunity to maintain their clean sheet and moved into the third set ready to finish off the deflated Leicester side. The solid attack through the outside from Linda Ziverte continued Tendring’s dominance and allowed new player Tracey Davies to come on and hammer the last nail in the coffin with a crafty tip into the middle of the court which finished the set 25-17. The Tendring ladies were content with their dominance throughout the match but were already thinking towards the second match against a much weaker Telford team.
