NVL Women - Herts Nomads (H) Match Report 2009-10
Tendring Women Clinch Promotion
Tendring vs Herts Nomads 3:1 (25:23, 20:25, 25:18, 25:20)
Report by Seb Widlarz
Tendring Volleyball Club women’s team have been promoted to the National Volleyball division two.
On Sunday 21st of March three teams met in the last fixture of this season. Tendring had to win just one of the matches to guarantee their promotion place to the next tier of English Volleyball.
In the first match of the day Tendring faced in-form Herts Nomads who are 7th in the league. The match started with some hard hitting with both teams staying level with each other throughout the set. Powerful serving by Hannah Robinson and Linda Ziverte allowed Tendring to inch their way forward winning 25:23. The second set started with a few unforced errors giving Herts a 6:0 lead. Tendring worked hard to come back but with a performance that looked nervous lost the set 25:20. At the beginning of the 3rd set coach Widlarz changed the game plan and with intelligent play at the net, Emily Mansfield and Kathryn Harris secured winning third set 25:18 finding gaps in the Herts defence. The last set was probably the easiest in this match and with very good service reception by libero Gemma Harvey and excellent defence Vicky Leaper drove the team to the 3:1 victory.
