Tendring Thump 3rd Placed Dolphins

Tendring 3 - 0 Sussex Dolphins

25-16, 25-14, 25-13

Report by Neil Masters

Tendring volleyball team returned to league action after their giant killing heroics 2 weeks ago. This was meant to be one their toughest opponents who lay only 1 place below Tendring in third position. However with a weakened side Sussex Dolphins were no match and were brushed aside within an hour.

Despite having sustained several injuries throughout the season Dolphins were able to field a more than capable squad. Tendring's player/coach Neil Masters directed his squad to target Dolphins weakest service reciever. Masters himself led the way with 7 straight service points laying down their dominance. Masters was superbly backed up by the formidable  hitting power of Stuart Dove who clinically found Sussex's court Time after time.

Tendring continued to shine with Liam Chinnery supplying the base from which to attack. The set went beyond Sussex's grasp before the second time out thanks to Joe Cook's service run, this time supported by Alex Porter. Tendring rounded off the set comfortable winners 25-16.
Tendring knew that this was now just about their ability to finish off teams without allowing them any chance of a revival. Another service run destroyed Sussex's confidence and allowed Nick Davies to freely choose which hitter would win the point for Tendring. Sonny Chaney returned to the starting line up after injuring his ankle on England Junior duties and his presence was felt after crushing a ball into the opponents court with no chance of it being returned. Tendring won the set 25-14.

The 3rd set ran similarly to the previous 2 with Tendring gaining a huge lead early on and extending that lead throughout the set, winning 25-13. The Janice Porter award went to Stuart Dove who looked immaculate going into next weekend's National Cup semi final clash with Super 8's team Leeds Carnegie.

Tendring's next home match against top of the table rivals  Watford Danes, is on the 6th March 1pm at TTC Frinton Campus.
