Tendring Repeat Earlier Success
Tendring V.C. 3-0 UEA
25-15, 25-19, 25-11
Report by Alex Porter
Tendring started their weekend with a brand new kit and 6 game unbeaten run to defend. After previous demolishing UEA Norwich earlier in the season Tendirng were expecting a similar results but UEA Norwich had a different idea. Their team only consisted of only 2 of the people from their previous game against Tendring which included Tendring old boy Daniel Warner.
Set 1 started well for both teams with Tendring fielding the usual suspects of Davies, Dove, Masters, Widlarz, J. Everett, Jones and Chinnery. UEA Norwich looked impressive in the warm-up and Tendring started the game feeling a bit of pressure as they were playing the unknown. The score were balanced up until 12-12 with Masters and Jones serving well. Widlarz was linking well with Davies and was able to play some clever shots off the block and putting the ball away when the opportunities arose. At 11-12 J. Everett blocked a UEA attack which when start down his front but managed to kick the ball back up in the air with his feet. Davies set a ball to the outside which Masters volleyed over. UEA scrambled to get the ball up but no one managed took control and the ball landed in the middle of court. This was the tipping point in the game, UEA’s heads dropped slightly and Tendring smelt blood. Tendring shook off the nerves and raced ahead. Dove and Widlarz killed everything they touched while J. Everett and Jones some how managed to touch every ball in the block helping the defence covert any UEA attacks. Tendring cruised to a 25-15 win.
Set 2
This set started as the last ended, with Tendring dominating play. J. Everett started well with 2 kills and monster block to give Tendring a 4-2 lead. Masters copied J. Everett with another monster block. Dove then got in on the action and killed an attack through 2 and followed it up with a block as well. UEA made a bit of a come back, 8-8, with some good play and some silly errors by Tendring. Masters used his brain and wiped off the block rather than going for glory when it wasn’t there for the taking. Jones produced his normal easy serve with is actually really difficult.
Spence Overton-White then came on for Widlarz across the back court, UEA thought they could gain a few cheap points by serving on Overton-White but he passed two perfect balls to Davies. When he got to front court Davies set him but nerves got the better of him and he hit it into the tap. Chapman came on for J. Everett and instantly got a block with Dove. Overton-White then got another chance and produced a kill. Dove and Chapman got another block to win the set, 25-19
