To much in one day

TENDRING 2 - 3 CHESTER AND CHESHIRE VC

21-25, 18-25, 26-24, 25-21, 11-15

Report by Hannah Robinson

Moving into the second game and watching the warm up, it was clear that the defensive play needed throughout this match would be closer to their own ability, and so the ladies were hungry to build up their own fire power.

More accurate and consistant passing in the serve receive provided a solid foundatuion for the Tendring play but the Cheshire were intelligent in their attacking and played to our weak spots along the net when attacking. Cheshire were picking up every attack and this was the first point in which Tendring began to hesitate. Their own errors and lack of confidence lead them to lose the first 2 sets.

The third set started in much the same way with Cheshire asking questions that Tendring could not answer. At 17-22 Davies called for a time out. As the Tendfring ladies came back on court they knmew they had to play without fear as they had nothing to lose at this point. Some powerful and well placed serving from Laura Hodkinson and some strong attacking at the net from Linda Ziverte brought the team back into the game and soon the score was 24-24. The atmosphere was tense and every toucvh of the ball counted. Some excellent backcourt play from Tracey Davies and Amanda Pollard meant that Saunders was able to set up a strong attack from Linda Ziverte. Tendring took the 3rd set 26-24 and moved into the next set in a very strong position.

Looking through the net the Cheshire side looked defeated and quiet. Tendring continued with the same intensity and determination. Kerry Skinner showed textbook technique back court and Becky Saunders was a force serving 8 points in a row from the back line. When Tendring were playing at their best they were leagues above the opposition. They took the fourth set 25-21 and moved into the decider on a level playing field.

Once again they had nothing to lose, however fatigue began to settle in and Tendring had stopped attacking. When it came time to swap ends Tendring were 8-5 down. Davies called another time out hoping for another late surge from the Essex side. Unfortunately the fight came too late in the set and Cheshire eventually took the set 3-2.

Tendring ease past leicester

Tendring 3 - 1 Leicester

25-15, 13-25, 25-9, 25-20
Report by Hannah Robinson

A very early start lead the Tendring ladies up to Leicester this weekend to face the home team and Cheshire who they had yet to see in action. After beating Leicester 3-0 at home, Tendring knew what they were facing, however they were bringing a different team which could cause some problems if they were put under pressure.

The first set began strong for the Essex side as they started strong with a new line up in serve receive. With Hannah Robinson and Sophie Haydon out due to injury, Kerry Skinner and new transfer Laura Hodgkinson who is joining the team from Super 8s team Northumbria, where asked to step up to the serve. This became a solid base for the first set and allowed Becky Saunders to distribute the attack across the net evenly. After winning the first set, Leicester upped their game testing Tendring’s defence and took the second set 25-13. Coach Nick Davies highlighted that all players would need to remain active in their defence to be able to pick up Leicester’s erratic attacking. The Tendring ladies picked up their defence and were able to convert this into some strong hitting through the middle from Liz White and Kerry Skinner. This paired with intelligent placing of the ball from Tracey Davies lead the girls to take the next 2 sets beating the home side 3-1.

Tendring Title Clash

Tendring 2 - 3 Northampton

25-9, 23-25, 21-25, 25-14, 11-15
Report by Hannag Robinson

After a dominating season so far, Tendring Ladies were up against their toughest challenge yet this weekend, as they faced Northampton and Herts who were also fighting for the top of the table spot. Coaches Mark Harris and Nick Davies made it clear to the team that these two matches would be of a much higher level to those that they had played already, meaning that there was no room for complacency.

The first match was against Northampton; after a good warm up, Tendring were pumped up and ready to begin the day on a high. Intelligent serving throughout the team and relentless attacking at the net from Robyn Sawyer lead the way as Tendring took an early lead. The Northampton side had no response to the attack and were only able to offer an easy ball in return which Tendring took full advantage of. The first set ended with a dominating win for Tendring 25-9.

After this positive start, it was clear that the opposition would only get better and so the home team would have to maintain their high standards if they were going to take the match. The Northampton side had had a chance to warm up and began to attack the ball testing Tendring’s defences. Some impressive defensive work from Sophie Haydon and some controlled serve receive from Hannah Robinson told the opposition that they were not going to give up the match without a fight. Strong hitting from Linda Ziverte matched Northampton’s attack but after a wobble in confidence, Northampton narrowly took the second set 25-23.

After another tight finish in the third set, Tendring were moving into the fourth 2-1 down, but were by no means ready to give up the fight. Taking it back to basics, Emily Mansfield lead the way at the net playing some intelligent shots. Becky Saunders was also able to distribute the ball across
the net thanks to some dominating passing back court from Robyn Sawyer. Northampton clearly had a favourite hitter; Tendring were able to pick this out early on in the game, and Liz White took command of the net with Ziverte creating a wall that their hitter could not penetrate. After taking out the attack early on, Tendring were able to make use of their own hitters and take the fourth set 25-14.

The last set saw another wobble from Tendring as they questioned their abilities and stopped attacking. Northampton took advantage of this and a strong offensive meant that they took the final set 15-11 handing Tendring their first loss of the season.

Tendring Girls Pipped At The Post

Tendring 2 - 3 Herts

25-23, 19-25, 12-25, 25-22, 15-17

Report by Hannah Robinson

After watching Northampton lose to Herts, the Tendring ladies moved into the next match of the day feeling they would need to play with the same intensity. Herts had a large court presence and a big attack so Tendring would need to focus on their own game. The first set began and it was point for point as Amanda Pollard started confidently through the middle and a couple of changes moved Emily Mansfield to the opposite position and Hannah Robinson hitting through the outside.
